Psalm 124, A Psalm of David.

Our Help is in the Lord

Psalms are musical—prayers sung with or without accompaniment. The instrument I am playing as I chant Psalm 124 is a Tone Drum, handmade for me by Carl Peverall in Celo, NC, and tuned to a low E minor 9th. Do you hear the slightly jarring tuning as it reflects the tension in the Psalm?

As Eugene H. Peterson writes in “The Message”, a contemporary interpretation of The New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs : “ in our praying (or singing the Psalms) we become whole and truly human in Jesus Christ, who also prayed the Psalms.”

In good and bad times, “Our help is in the Lord who made heaven and earth.”
