Psalm 80:1

The Lamb

Listen, Shepherd, Israel’s Shepherd-
   Get your Joseph sheep together.
Throw beams of light
   From your dazzling throne.
                                           Psalm 80:1

Photograph taken at Biltmore last Spring.

My family raised sheep on our farm in Tennessee; I was allowed to own one for a pet and my continued love of lambs carries over to the present. My membership at the Biltmore Estate allows me to spend time with the flock, a time of meditation, remembrance, and joy.

Are you drawn to a particular animal or a pet?  Let this time of Advent give you pause to be grateful for God’s creations, including the “little lambs.”

The Lamb
by William Blake

Little Lamb who made thee

         Dost thou know who made thee

Gave thee life & bid thee feed.

By the stream & o’er the mead;

Gave thee clothing of delight,

Softest clothing wooly bright;

Gave thee such a tender voice,

Making all the vales rejoice!

         Little Lamb who made thee

         Dost thou know who made thee

         Little Lamb I’ll tell thee,

         Little Lamb I’ll tell thee!

He is called by thy name,

For he calls himself a Lamb:

He is meek & he is mild,

He became a little child:

I a child & thou a lamb,

We are called by his name.

         Little Lamb God bless thee.

         Little Lamb God bless thee.

If you have time, listen to this beautiful musical setting of Blake’s poem by British composer, John Tavener.
