Romans 8:22-25

Waiting

We know that all creation is still groaning and is in pain, like a woman about to give birth. The Spirit makes us sure about what we will be in the future. But now we groan silently, while we wait for God to show that we are his children. This means that our bodies will also be set free. And this hope is what saves us. But if we already have what we hope for, there is no need to keep on hoping. However, we hope for something we have not yet seen, and we patiently wait for it.

Romans 8:22-25 Contemporary English Version

Advent is a season of anticipation. The initial zing of anticipation can be fun and then the waiting….I am horrible at waiting. I know there is beauty in it, but then I want to bask in the culmination of the waiting now.

And yet, this is where we find ourselves….in this beautiful and broken world groaning and waiting. Many times our groaning is silent. We walk around thinking that no one sees the pain or feels our anguish. The thing is that, even if those around us don’t know, God does.

Our bodies carry pain and if we are not careful it can permeate our whole lives. So….as we groan in silence or out loud, I pray these groans can be a release. A setting free of that which holds us back from fully embracing this abundant love that came to be with us… enfleshed. This wholeness and love is worth waiting for.

May you find healing in the groaning, the waiting and the anticipation of love come to us.
